Muscat Municipality Continues Constructing Water Drainage Canals in Al-Ghubrah

Bushra Al Busaidiyya

Muscat Municipality has recently started the first phase of the project constructing a drainage canal in the Ghubra area. The project will construct open channels that are 2 km long, made of reinforced concrete and lined with gravel and cement. All service lines that conflict with the path of the canal will be protected during the work.
The project attempts to drain rainwater which accumulates mostly at the commercial district located next to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, as well as in front of the Courthous building. It is expected to be completed by the first quarter of next year.
Despite some challenges, Muscat Municipality has set its priorities to implement the drainage projects in Muscat to serve as sustainable solutions treating the issue of rainwater accumulation, while ensuring that it does not affect the surrounding facilities and other infrastructure projects.
