Muscat Municipality to Expand the Roundabout at the Sayyida Maizoon Mosque
Following the supreme directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq to implement an additional package of development projects in Muscat governorate in the five-year plan (2021-2025), Muscat Municipality begins implementation of a project to expand the Roundabout at the Sayyida Maizoon Mosque in the southern Al-Muwalih area and to convert the existing roundabout into an intersection with light signals, in addition to the establishment of a network of surface water drainage channels, low water crossings and protections, in order to enhance the traffic flow in different climate conditions.
The work will also expand the intersection by adding new traffic lanes in both directions, rehabilitating the water drainage channel next to the current roundabout with a width of (40) meters, and making side protections on both sides of the channel. Likewise, the water drainage holes under Maizoon and Shabab streets will be widened; to be as many as (12) holes, (3) meters wide, and (two meters) high. Adding a box culvert with a number of (3) openings, a width of (3) meters, and a height of (1.5) meters at the bottom of the streets of Maizoon and Al-Muwalih Bridge.
The projects were inaugurated to prevent the risks of flash flooding and to promote the commercial and development movement in the area. The implementation of the project will begin during the last quarter of this year 2022, and it is hoped that the implementation will continue for (12) months.
