Rules and Conditions for Camping in Muscat Governorate


Article (1):

It is not allowed to camp, whether in a caravan or tent, or sitting for more than (48) hours, without obtaining a prior permit from the competent service Directorate, and paying a security deposit of 100 OMR (one hundred Omani rials), that will be valid for seven nights, extendable.

Article (2) Site requirements:

- Camping should be in the places specified by the municipality.
- Leaving distance between each site of not less than (5) meters.
- Leave a minimum distance of (10) meters between the camping site and the beach.
- The camping site should be away from the fishermen and security restricted areas.
- The camping site should be at least 100 meters away from residential neighborhoods.

Article (3) Hygiene requirements:

1- Keeping the designated site clean throughout the period of use.
2- Avoiding to use any mobile toilets with specifications not approved hygienically.
3- Avoiding to damage local agriculture or wild plants
4- Avoiding to make sand barriers or any kind of modifications in the natural environment of the camping site.
5- No burning or backfilling of waste.
6- Avoiding to light fires or barbecue on green and beach areas.

Article (4) Security and safety requirements:

1- The licensee is obliged to provide security and safety equipment for each site at all time.
2- If a fence is used around the site, it should be made of temporary materials and does not block the view.
3- Avoiding to direct lasers or lights towards the sky.

Article (5) Public morality:

1- Avoiding to use the camp or caravan for prohibited purposes or causing annoyance to others.
2- Abiding by the laws, decisions, orders and public morals observed in the Sultanate of Oman.


Article (6) Technical requirements:

1. The issued license number must be fixed on a plate on the front of the caravan, tent or the sitting place, and the licensee may not assign the license to third parties, or practice the activity in a location other than the location specified in the license.
2. Avoiding to use concrete or other building materials for any purpose whatsoever.
3. Avoiding to use generators that cause inconvenience to site visitors, but to use silent generators only.
4. Organising parking, entry and exit to and from the site.
5. Avoiding to level or pave the site with heavy equipment.

Article (7):

Anyone who violates these controls and requirements shall be punished as follows: 1- An administrative fine of (200 Omr) two hundred Omani rials when camping without obtaining a permit.
2- An administrative fine of (50 Omr) fifty Omani riyals in case of non-compliance with one of the rules or requirements for camping.
3- If the violation is repeated or failure to implement the requirements, the caravan, tent or sitting area is then removed.
