Applications for Camping Permits Now Offered Online
Based on the former circular issued by Muscat Municipality on the requirements of camping in Muscat Governorate, and due to the increasing demand for camping permits specially at this time of the year, Muscat Municipality has created an online portal for people wishing to obtain camping permits in Muscat Governorate. It is worth to mention that article one of the requirements do not allow people to camp, whether in a caravan or tent, or sitting for more than (48) hours, without obtaining a prior permit from the competent service Directorate, and paying a security deposit of 100 OMR (one hundred Omani rials), that will be valid for seven nights, extendable. Article two stipulates that the site should be specified by the municipality, to leave a distance between each site of not less than (5) meters, a minimum distance of (10) meters between the camping site and the beach, and that the camping site should be away from the fishermen and security restricted areas, and should be at least 100 meters away from residential neighborhoods.
Article three relates to Hygiene requirements by keeping the designated site clean throughout the period of use, avoiding to use any mobile toilets with specifications not approved hygienically, avoiding to damage local agriculture or wild plants, avoiding to make sand barriers or any kind of modifications in the natural environment of the camping site, no burning or backfilling of waste and avoiding to light fires or barbecue on green and beach areas.
Article (7) stipulates that anyone who violates these controls and requirements shall be punished by an administrative fine of (200 Omr) two hundred Omani rials when camping without obtaining a permit, an administrative fine of (50 Omr) fifty Omani riyals in case of non-compliance with one of the rules or requirements for camping, and if the violation is repeated or failure to implement the requirements, the caravan, tent or sitting area is then removed.
