The Central Market for Vegetables and Fruits Is Ready for Ramadan




As part of the preparations of the central market for vegetables and fruits for the holy month of Ramadan, Muscat Municipality worked to increase the readiness of the market in terms of abundance and organizational, while working to follow up the commitment of food stores and their customers and their adherence to health requirements and preventive measures.

The opening hours of the market have been set to suit the specificity of the holy month, as for the main sunshade (wholesale platform) will operate from 4 am to 1 pm. Wholesale stores will work from 4 am to 5 pm, with retail stores and local production continuing to work on two shifts (morning and evening) all week except Friday, while the main sunshade (local production site) it will be working in it from 4 am to 5 pm. The market also determined the entry for wholesale vegetable and fruit transport vehicles from Gate No. (1) for the period from 4 am to 10 pm, whereas consumer cars will enter from Gate No. 2 from 7 am to 10 pm, while the entry gates for individuals will be open from 4 am to 10 pm. The market closes on Friday.

As for the inspection campaigns, and in order to ensure the safety of fresh food products in the markets, the municipality destroyed (3392) tons of rotten vegetables and fruits during (16/2/2023 to 16/3/2023).
The market traders were urged to increase and intensify direct imports from the countries of origin and coordinate with the Omani Farmers Association to ensure the availability of local products.
 
The companies have started their preparation for this season by increasing the number of incoming consignments to the market to meet the needs of the local consumer. The number of trucks arriving to the market during (16/2/2023 to 16/3/2023) amounted to (1005) trucks loaded with a total of (20100) tons of vegetables and fruits.
