When the green colour of trees covers the city, the place becomes relaxing and pleasing to the eyes. From this point, and within its pursuit of ensuring a sustainable green environment, Muscat Municipality has the latest and best technologies in the field of landscaping and spreading the green landscapes, and is working according to well-thought-out plans to expand the scope of flat green spaces, and add health components that are in line with the humanization of cities, such as the work of walking and the establishment of public parks.

Landscaping is a priority:

The project to landscape the side area adjacent to public roads & squares have a special appeal to the municipality`s projects in Muscat governorate, where this type of landscaping comes from the point of view of adding diversity in visual vision through the extensions of roads and concrete walls of buildings and urbanization, as well as afforestation of these extensions has environmental, psychological and aesthetic benefits consistent with modern concepts of planning.

Sustainable projects:

The Directorate General of projects and landscaping is implementing a number of projects related to afforestation, and it has so far completed (80%) of the landscaping work in Bousher public park, in addition to the completion of the afforestation of the Mashawi Village project in al-Amirat. The municipality has recently completed the implementation of the fourth Amirat walkway project, which was supervised by the Directorate of Muscat Municipality in Amirat, and its construction work was assigned to outsource entities according to the tendering procedures. The work was assigned by the Directorate General of technical affairs to the executing company, to which all works and facilities are assigned, including the installation and supply of irrigation and afforestation systems. The percentage of work has exceeded 80% and as soon as the civil works are completed, afforestation works will be started.

Area of Green Landscapes

The 137 parks are spread in various states of Muscat governorate, the total green area in Muscat governorate stretches to (2730446) square meters, the number of date trees planted is (19565) trees, while the number of other trees is (51831) and the number of shrubs and fences is estimated at (336777), and seasonal flowers (84205) square meters.
The municipality`s plant nursery plays a vital role in the propagation of some types of trees and plantations, such as Sidr, Zam, Peltophorum tree, Neem, Cassia Ndura, in addition to African tulip, Buhonia, Ponciana.
The average annual production of plant in al-Qurm park is estimated from (100,000) to (120,000) thousand trees, and (250,000) to (300,000) shrubs, while fences and soil coverings (500,000) thousand.

Sustainability of facilities and walkways:

Muscat Municipality has implemented a number of walkways in various areas of Muscat, including al-Mahaj in al-Amirat, al-Wadi al-Kabeer, as well as Jaal in Bousher, the Exhibition Street at the Airport Heights, and Sur al-Hadeed walkway in Seeb. Currrenlty, there are a number of walkways under construction, such as the Golden Jubilee walkway in al-Muwalih, and the fourth zone in al-Amirat and Daghmar walkway in Qurayyat.
