Seeb Records Highest Rate of Demolition and Construction Waste


The contact centre of Muscat Municipality registered about 424 reports on construction and demolition waste during the period from January 1 to December 17, 2022. The wilayah of Seeb represented the largest percentage by (232) reports, due to the population density and the constant need for construction works, residential or commercial. Wilayah of Bousher ranked second by (130) reports, al-Amirat (44), while both Mutrah and Muscat (15) and finally Qurayyat (3) reports.
While the total number of violations related to throwing waste amounted to (260) violations: Amerat accounted for the largest percentage of them by about (141) violations, while Seeb recorded (50) violations, and Boucher, Qurayyat, Mutrah and Muscat recorded almost the same percentage, i.e. approximately (23) violations.
Based on the Royal Decree No. 114/2001 issued on Environmental Protection and Pollution Control, came to maintain the Omani environment free of pollution, as well as the Royal Decree No. 36/2022 on the issuance of the governorates law Chapter VI (municipalities) in Article (18), stressing that importance of maintaining public health.
The laws entitled specialists of municipality to take the necessary measures to remove deformations in villages, residential neighbourhoods, roads, public squares, parking lots, walkways and wadies. The local Order No. 1/2006 of Muscat Municipality on the Prevention of Public Health in Article No. 11 stipulated:" any person is prohibited from dumping, leaving, placing, discharging, burning any waste in public places or disposing in sites other than those designated by the municipality", and Article No. 14, which stated that: "Construction contractors are obliged to dispose of construction and demolition waste at the designated sites for this.
