Legal Provisions Prohibit Burning of Waste





Muscat Municipality takes from the awareness of the local community a national legislation to preserve the environment, however, random phenomena and irresponsible violations by some members of society violate the environment and its components, and make legislative measures of importance and necessity, Muscat Municipality works against anyone who dumps and burns solid waste by issuing fines, based on the application of Local Order No. 55/2017.

The Royal Decree No. 114/2001 issued on Environmental Protection and Pollution Control also promoted the adoption of such legislation, which ensures the survival of the Omani environment free from pollution.

The local orders of Muscat Municipality, based on the local order no. (1/2006) on public health prevention under Article No. (11) stipulate that any person is required to dump, Leave, place, discharge or burn any waste in public places or dispose of it in other than the disposal sites specified by the municipality.

Article No. (14), also stated: building contractors are obliged to dispose of construction and demolition waste at specialized sites for this.
