Municipality Exerts efforts to Tow Abandoned Cars
One of the prominent phenomena plaguing municipal efforts is abandoned cars neglected in public squares and roads. Such vehicles block streets and distort the urban landscape as they accumulate dust and rodents. This necessitated municipal authorities to reduce the spread of this phenomenon through the intensification of inspection campaigns on a permanent basis, in order to improve the quality of life and achieve the highest standards of safety, public health and a beautiful civilized appearance. Given the noticeable spread of the phenomenon with the growing effects of leaving damaged vehicles in neighbourhoods and public squares, clear efforts came from Muscat Municipality to tow away neglected vehicles and clear the public from them.
The municipal urban inspection departments carry out field visits to monitor neglected vehicles for long periods, or those cars that occupy the public for the purpose of sale without returning to the competent authorities to obtain the necessary permits. The inspection department deals with neglected vehicles by placing an alert sticker on cars left in public or residential neighbourhoods for a period of two weeks, provided that it coordinates with the Royal Oman Police to ensure that there is no report or circular on the vehicle or any other restrictions.
The municipality may also tow away and detain neglected vehicles in squares and public places after the expiration of the specified period from the placement of the warning sticker and after prior notification to the car owner to remove his car from the place where it is parked. The municipality shall not bear the consequences or damages that may be caused to the abandoned vehicle during the transportation process and during the period of its detention.
