Converting al-Khuwair Service Street to One-way
To enhance traffic movement in a vital area with commercial activities, Muscat Municipality will soon implement an updated project on the existing service road adjacent to the Sultan Qaboos main street in Bousher al Khuwair, by converting the current service road to be a one-way road only.
About (6) kilometres of service roads will be a one-way road with two lanes starting from al Khuwair intersection No. 3534 until the intersection of ministries street (below the flyover). The project includes the construction of two additional entry points to the main Sultan Qaboos Street halfway along the service road, as well as at the end of the service road; in order to reduce additional commuting times.
A number of side roads will be changed into one-way roads in order to improve flow of traffic, and among the components of the project are the construction of new sidewalks for pedestrians, improved parking facilities, accompanying service works, and the establishment of a new road link over the aqueduct adjacent to the HSBC Bank building.
The project aims to address traffic congestion in one direction, thus avoiding traffic hazards and side turns, reducing noise, raising traffic efficiency, and ease of movement, movement and access between inner neighbourhoods and surrounding areas.
