Updated Electronic Traffic Control System
The updated electronic traffic control system is part of the smart city management in adopting IoT technology in controlling the lighting sector remotely, and monitoring the movement of major intersections in Muscat Governorate.
The project attempts to improve traffic through the system of connecting traffic lights with an intelligent system, to enhance the level of traffic safety by monitoring all intersections and roads with digital cameras.
The feasibility of the project lies in times of sudden failure of traffic lights in Muscat Governorate, especially at light intersections in vital areas, such as power outages from the source or due to an accident, where the municipality immediately turns on the light junction by connecting it to the "generator" during a short period of interruption so that the signal remains temporarily open until the main current of the light signals returns.
The project provides a number of facilities coupled with smart systems, which will be activated in the coming stages, through which the busiest roads are foreseen from several kilometres away, as it enables users to change their routes to the safest and smoothest through the presence of electronic regulations on the streets that give indicators about the safety and smoothness of the street.
It is noteworthy that the number of optical intersections currently connected to Muscat is (34) optical intersections and a new package will be added in the near future up to (35) intersections during the next phase.
